In California, an annulment, sometimes called “nullity", is when a court says that your marriage or domestic partnership is NOT legally valid because it is void at the inception or invalid for some other reason. After you do an annulment, it is as if your marriage or domestic partnership never occured.  There is no divorce.  Rather, you two were never married.
